(Note to self: not finished... Loupiac, photos not in order)
Today we drove along the Garonne river to check out some wineries and villages. Along the way, we saw a sign for the Castle of Langoiran, from the 13th century, so we went to check it out. There was no one there except one man, who couldn't speak English so we ended up giving him $16E to tour the castle on our own,.. which didn't last very long. But it had a great view of the surrounding area and it is always interesting to see such history. Everything is so old, which we aren't used to.
More vineyards.... so pretty, with the church steeple in the background.
Castle of Villandraut - built in 1305 for the Pope Clement V and his family.
Here's some photos of the wine tasting, and also the ruins of a castle on their property that we hiked up to. It started to pour when we got there. No roof to keep cover under! :-) Apparently the Nazis took over this castle during the war and then destroyed it when it was over.
And here's another castle ruin amongst the vineyards.
