More adventures in Holland

Left Assendelft and went to see a windmill museum 10 minutes away, called Zaanse Schans.  It is a historic village with its traditional village homes, workshops and windmills.  Luckily the terrential downpour stopped just in time!  It was very touristy but we enjoyed it anyway.  We took a tour of two windmills:  Ruby, Simon and I went to see the paint windmill and Rodger and Cameron went to see the sawmill.

They had a demonstration on how they make wooden shoes.

And of course we needed to do the touristy thing and take these photos:

From there we drove to Edam and wandered around for awhile.  Oh my goodness, so cute!  It looked like miniature-world, all the cute little homes and canals.  Loved it!   Got to Delft and checked into our hostel by 5:00pm.

So... Delft... super cute, canal lined streets, typical little Dutch town.  The hostel is awesome, our room is super clean, and there are 7 single beds, dorm style, with our own bathroom.  We have windows and skylights that have amazing views, and the communal areas of the hostel are welcoming and clean.

Dinner of Mr. Noodles.... when in a hostel, eat like a backpacker

Do cars ever fall into the canals??

However!!  As we were in the middle of having our dinner, on the rooftop deck, live music started blaring from the town square, where a party was being set up for the week (Jazz festival).  It was loud.  Really loud!   Very frustrating and put a huge damper on our time here.  We went for a walk that evening, and Delft was in full party mode.  We sure know how to pick 'em!

The church steeple lit up through the skylight - so pretty

And this is where I am right now... typing on the computer at 11:15 pm because the live music is blaring.. and will continue until midnight we are told.  I am so incredibly bummed... disappointed, tired,... many words I can think of right now, but Rodger made me delete them.  This stupid party is ruining our time in this lovely little town.  Augh!!!

Monday we are off to Friesland for 2 nights.  I hope it will be quieter there, but who knows?  Every time we book something it's a complete gamble... will it be great?  Awful??  We've had both, for sure.
