Next up was St. Antoine L'Abbaye, which is a 1000 year old Abby in a medieval village. Oh my goodnesss, hard to believe we were looking at a village that is so old!! Everything was closed so we wandered the narrow cobblestone streets and looked inside the Abby. It was nice to sit in there for awhile as it was so cool inside!
Since it was so hot, we went in search of a swimming spot that was recommended to us. But when we got to the lake we realized we had to pay to go into the area. No thanks. The kids were very disappointed but we have learned not to promise them anything, as we never know what we will (or will not) find. So we drove home, dropped me off, and they went back to Pont en Royans for a swim. I think that will be our local hangout spot, especially if this hot weather continues. It really is lovely by the river, there is plenty of shade and picnic tables, we know where it is, and it's free.. not to mention the amazing view of the cliff-hanging houses as a backdrop! What more could you ask for, really?
